The reign ofJustinian was significant in many ways.First of all, it marked the final rarity of the Roman Empire. Itwas the establishment of the NewByzantine empire. It was also the beginning of WesternEuropes unique position within thecivilization of the old wo rld. The holiness of Islam spreadand the Franks rose to power (The Reignof Justinian). Among other things, Justinians rule saw aflourishment in the areas of architecture, thearts, and literature. It was a time of re-building for theempire. Justinian pursued an ambitious ambitiousness of restoring the old Roman Empire. In fact, Justinianled the Byzantine army in many wars toregain this land. These wars destroyed much of the greatarchitecture that Justinian himself hadcreated. More than any other series of events before of sincethat time. Justinian was successful indriving out the Ostrogoths from Italy, and the Vandals fromAfrica. During the western warsJustinian bought peace of mind with the Persians, weakened theempire, and oppressed his subjects(Justinian).Justinian tried to restore the empire to go over the size thatit was at the time of the Roman Empire.These immense military efforts did all but exhaust theempires treasury. He even had to pay Persiafor peace just so that he co uld have a free hand in the west.However, even after Justiniansimmense efforts, after his death, most of Italy, southerlySpain, and Africa were once againrecaptured, leaving only Justinians dream of restoring theempire to the glory it once knew. Hisdream had failed (The Empire at the time of Justinian). Thewesterners didnt privation to return tosome of the old Roman ways such as Roman taxation,... ...e of the capital city, a number of distinguishedliterary figures of Justinians time poppedup. Their works were largely influenced by the great Greekphilosopher such as Aristotle andPlato.
